Rickie Lee Jones circa 1979

Rickie Lee Jones celebrated her 60th birthday November 8. She appears on the recently-released Map To The Treasure: Reimagining Laura Nyro from pianist/composer/arranger Billy Childs, an album of 10 Nyro songs interpreted by Childs and artists including Shawn Colvin, Alison Kraus & Jerry Douglas, Wayne Shorter and Yo-Yo Ma. Jones’ haunting contribution to the project is “Been on a Train” from 1970’s Christmas and the Beads of Sweat.

Jones has acknowledged Nyro’s influence on her work, notably on 1981’s Pirates and that album’s “Living It Up” and “We Belong Together.” Listen to her & Childs’ interpretation of “Been on a Train,” posted on her Facebook page, by clicking here.
