English singer/songwriter David Bowie (born David Robert Jones) has died, two days after his 69th birthday. Bowie’s career, over 4 decades, was marked by reinvention, musical innovation and visual presentation. He was diagnosed with cancer eighteen months ago.
Bowie released his latest album, Blackstar, on his birthday on Friday. The New York Times described the album as “at once emotive and cryptic, structured and spontaneous and, above all, willful, refusing to cater to the expectations of radio stations or fans.”
